Smoke alarms
Mainland Extinguishers is a leading supplier and installer of quality smoke alarms.
Every building, business or home, requires smoke alarms to be fitted in a way that complies with the regulations. We specialise in guiding you through the process of knowing what kind of alarm should be fitted, and where, to ensure you remain safe and compliant with the regulations.
We stock high quality alarms and ensure they are installed correctly and serviced as required.

The main types of smoke alarm we supply are:
Cavius Wireless and Cavius Nano Alarms
Cavius have been constantly refining and testing the world’s most advanced alarms since 2004, relentlessly pursuing better, safer alarms. Created by Danish designers and British engineers, all CAVIUS alarms are meticulously assembled by hand.
The Cavius Wireless Family range offers a higher level of protection through interconnectivity while still offering style and aesthetics. The majority of smoke alarms now come with a built-in, sealed, long-life lithium battery, good for 8-10 years of operation.
9-Volt Alarms
9-volt batteries can be tempting if you’re on a budget, but we advise against them. A 9-volt battery will last for about a year before it’ll need replacing.
NZ Building Code - Smoke Alarm Requirements
As of November 2024, the New Zealand Building Code Acceptable Solutions for Protection from Fire (C/AS1 and C/AS2) has been updated to require interconnected smoke alarms as the minimum fire safety system for newly built homes and consented renovations. These updates reference NZS 4514:2021 – Interconnected Smoke Alarms for Houses. The standard allows for both wireless and hard-wired interconnections, using either 10-year long-life battery-powered, DC low voltage or 240v mains-powered alarms.
The CAVIUS Wireless Family range of smoke alarms fully complies with the updated New Zealand Building Code.
